Te Apiti Wind Farm

Project Owner: Meridian Energy

Our market leading team members worked on the Te Apiti project which was the first large scale wind farm in New Zealand and was connected to the national Transpower grid. The site on the Ruahine Range adjacent to the Manawatu Gorge was challenging and was impacted by a significant flood event which took out the main site access on the Saddle Road. The project set the standard for large scale wind farm construction in New Zealand.

David Rubery bid and managed the CBOP delivery with the full range of disciplines including bulk earthworks, drainage, pavements, turbine foundation construction, cable reticulation install, full substation construction, transmission line civil works, fencing and associated site, health & safety, environmental, traffic and quality compliance.

Goodman Contractors under the management of Stan Goodman were the principal subcontractors for the bulk earthworks, foundation excavations, drainage, environmental management, site rehabilitation and flood incident response.

Te Apiti was at the forefront of large scale wind farm CBOP works in New Zealand with construction methodologies across the various civil disciplines developed and subsequently refined as the team moved on to the next wind farm project.
